Ports of France: The most beautiful places to moor
Whether it’s marinas, fishing ports or industrial ports, France has something to offer in terms of dream landscapes. Here is our selection of the most beautiful ports to visit urgently!
1 – Port of Menton
The weather is beautiful almost all of the year, what could be better? Just before the Italian border, don’t miss one of the joys of the Cote d’Azur: Menton. Between sea and mountains, houses and villas with a thousand colors mix, mixing both a baroque style and a Belle Epoque style. Whether you prefer a stroll in the landscaped gardens or in the medieval streets, you will find what you are looking for. The city is also known for being the lemon capital.
2 – Port of Collioure
Matisse and many other artists were inspired by this atypical port. Located in the foothills of the Albères, we advise you to moor at the Port of Collioure. We nevertheless advise you to avoid periods of strong wind. You can observe from the pontoon of the boat, Fort Saint-Elme, alongside the domed bell tower of Notre-Dame des Anges.
3 – Port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz
This port was once intended solely for fishing, where one could catch sea bream and cod. It was also one of the major departure points for whaling in Newfoundland waters. The Port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz also owes its fame to its many multicolored boats which come to stop there. It is an integral part of the Luzian heritage, and enlivens the city with its boat trips.
4 – Old Port of Marseille
The Old Port of Marseille is one of the symbols of the city of Marseille. A large gathering point, it is the scene of many Marseille events, such as parties, concerts, or fireworks. It is also known for hosting one of the largest fish markets in the country, fans take note.
5 – Port of Saint-Tropez
Apart from the image of a jet set port, with its stars and yachts, the port of Saint-Tropez is above all a small traditional fishing port and a marina. The big boats mix with the small fishing boats which gives us a ballet of colors to feast our eyes. However, it is strongly recommended not to moor there during the summer period, as the port is crowded with people and places are expensive.
